Railway was the only way to go from one place to another place in the ancient period. As the time goes, many improvements has been undergone in the railway system but importance of railway decreases due to development of other transportation services like airplane, car, etc. There are many dangerous railway station located in the world at where no one wants to go.

We can imagine that many people had visited these railway stations in the past by watching images of railway stations given below. These railway stations have become useless now as these are restricted by the authority. However, these stations give the memory of the functions that took place in the earlier period.

1) Estacion Canfranc, Spain

This is the international railway station in the village of Canfranc in Spain, near the border of French. It was considered as one of the largest railway station among the three largest stations of Europe. Estacion Canfranc railway station was built in 1928 and closed up in '70s as one bridge destroyed in accident of one international train.

2) St. Martin Métro Station, Paris, France

St Martin is the most interesting ghost metro station in Paris. Parisian underground rail system is more than 100 years old. Many additions, modifications and extensions have been took place in the earlier time. However, this is abandoned railway station for us. French government had made a plan to close non-essential stations on the metro before the Second World War and St Martin was also included in those railway stations. This station was closed in September 1939. After sometime, it was reopened but re-opening was short lived and station was once again closed permanently due to the close up of surrounding stations.

3) Abandoned Station (petite ceinture), France

This is the very old railway station of Paris that has 32 kilometers double track length within the boulevards of Paris. Traffic of passenger started from 1862 between the line Clichy-Batignolles and La-Bercy Rapee and it slowly increases the whole line. Currently, this railway station is well known as biodiversity reserve. You can view over 1,500 bat species of the pipistrelle and variety of trees & plants.  

4) Aldwych Tube Station, London, UK

Aldwych Tube Station was opened in 1907 as a Strand. The abandoned station building is located near the Surrey Street and junction of Strand. No extensions were implemented through out its life excluding the station was extended to southwards. This railway station and other underground railway station of London have been appeared in many films. It was shut down in 1994 as the station was not able to generate the sufficient income that can cover the cost of repairs.

5) Szabadka, Serbia

This abandoned railway station is also known as 'Subotica' in Serbian language. It was opened in 1800s when Subotica city belonged to Hungary. You can imagine the history of station by watching it now even though it is closed today. The station is bordered by fields so you have to spend minimum one hour to walk around the station.

6) Chamberí Station, Madrid, Spain

Chamberí was metro station on Line 1, between Iglesia and Bilbao. The part of first subway line of this station was run from Cuatro Caminos to Puerta Del Solin Madrid that was launched in October 17th, 1919. The station had curve shape so it was not possible to expand the station or change it to hold the longer six carriage trains so the station has been closed. This abandoned railway station turned in wonderful museum.

7) Kymlinge Metro Station, Stockholm

The plan of metro station in Kymlinge, situated between Kista stations and Hallonbergen was prepared by the authorities in Stockholm in 1970s. However, due to any reasons, they built only half part of station and left it as unfinished station. Even though, the station was opened in 1976. It was possible to carry this railway as an unfinished work of station but it had got reputation as a ghost station that might be a main problem.

8) Echizen-Tano, Tokyo, Japan

Echizen-Tano is abandoned railway station in Japan. If you look the image of this station, then you will realize that woman is waiting for her departed lover to return. It is assumed that she is still at there in form of ghost.

9) Pinkenba Railway Station, Australia

The Pinkenba railway station was launched in 3 September 1882 at Australia. The station became rubbish with big amounts of dust dumped over the last stop of Pinkenba station. The station became dumping ground and the track of the train was removed in 1969. The station was closed in 1993.

10) Abandoned Boxcars

Abandoned Boxcars is the unknown ghost station at where the ghosts of hobos who traveled in them still wait for more ride.

I enjoyed reading your Hub; it was useful and fun. I really liked the photo of the old station in Paris - it looks very pretty and I think it would be fun to live in the house above the railway line!
